When you board the Manta Ray, we will introduce ourselves and have a very brief orientation explaining a few safety reminders, how to flush the toilet, and what to expect on your trip. Then it’s time to lather on the sunscreen and choose from our variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
As we depart Flamingo Marina, our captain and crew will be on the lookout for dolphins, sea turtles, jumping manta rays and whales as we sail north near Isla Brumel with a view of Las Catalinas Islands on the western horizon.
If the weather permits, we sail around Brumel Island at Punta Zapotal, where you’ll enjoy costal views of Playa Danta, Playa Guacamaya and on a clear day, three of Costa Rica’s volcanos and the coast of Nicaragua far off in the distance!
Other potential destinations include Honeymoon Beach and Playa Piedra, and if you’ve timed your trip just right, you may just witness an annual migration of the Giant Pacific Manta Rays! Our beloved Humpback Whales migrate throughout the year. Home to the longest Humpback Whale Season in the world, we actually live among three species – California Humpback, Antarctic Humpback, and North Atlantic St Lawrence Humpback Whales.
Pilot Whales, Blue Whales, and Pseudo-Orca Whales may also be seen along our coastlines, but these extremely rare sightings are reserved for the luckiest.
Depending on weather and visibility, we select the optimal spot for snorkeling. While the group enjoys the water, our crew will prepare your lunch.
If you’re not much for life under water, take the Stand Up Paddle Board and explore hidden beaches only accessible by boat, or just sit back, enjoy the music and take in the scenery with a fresh drink and snacks until it’s time to eat!
After everyone is fed and happy, we will lift anchor and make our way back to Flamingo looking for ocean life in the afternoon sun or enjoying another one of Guanacaste’s famous sunsets.
